đ¨ď¸ Blizzard Mode Activated
The Haswell Quick-Cast | March 16th, 2026| Chief Meteorologist Rob Haswell
Good morning Quick-Casters!
Well⌠if you looked outside this morning and thought, âDid someone shake the entire state like a snow globe?â youâre not wrong.
A Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 4 PM across southern Wisconsin as a powerful late-season winter storm blasts the region with heavy snow and wind gusts approaching 50â60 mph.
That combination is producing dangerously low visibility and blowing snow, especially during the morning commute. Snow will gradually taper late morning into midday from south to north, but even after the flakes slow down, the wind will keep blowing and drifting snow into the afternoon.
In other words: the snow may stop falling, but winter will still be rearranging it.
Letâs dig in.

1988 â Powerful Winds in Utah
A storm produced 80 mph wind gusts in Centerville, Utah, showing that wild weather is definitely not just a Midwest thing.
đ¨ď¸ Weather 101: What Actually Makes a Blizzard?
A blizzard isnât just âa lot of snow.â Itâs actually defined by specific conditions.
A blizzard occurs when the following conditions last for at least three hours:
⢠Sustained winds or frequent gusts 35 mph or higher
⢠Falling or blowing snow that frequently reduces visibility to Ÿ mile or less
Thatâs exactly what weâre seeing today across southern Wisconsin.
Blizzard Warning
Issued when those conditions are expected to occur for three hours or more.
Ground Blizzard
This happens when strong winds blow existing snow around, even if no new snow is falling.
Translation: even after the snow ends today, the wind will keep the blizzard vibes going for a while.
